LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, Donald Trump announced Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance as his vice presidential running mate during the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. But Vance is just the latest figurehead for a MAGA movement beholden to no force but Trump, and committed to policies that will take this country backward.

“Donald Trump’s decision to name election denier J.D. Vance as his running mate solidifies what we already knew about the former president’s agenda. Namely, Trump’s extremist MAGA agenda seeks to end LGBTQ+ protections, increase tariffs, and reduce the role of the federal government — all things Vance has loudly and proudly called for during his lackluster career in the United States Senate.
Vance is a faux populist and flip-flopper with no policy position that couldn’t be shifted by a strong breeze – assuming he has any position beyond self-aggrandizing cable news hits as the MAGA movement’s resident culture warrior. He has embraced conspiracy theories and worked hand in glove with corporate oil and pharma interests. His pandering, go-nowhere bills in the Senate have targeted federal DEI programs and sought to criminalize gender-affirming care for minors. That a man who once said he could not ‘stomach Trump’ and described the former president as ‘America’s Hitler’ is now Trump’s running mate tells us all we need to know about Vance.
Vance’s claims that he would have refused to certify the 2020 election results lay bare the plans of President Trump to continue to undermine the will of the American people to re-enter the White House, and remain there indefinitely, by any means necessary. A Trump-Vance ticket has made it more clear than ever what kind of future will be on the ballot this November: One where the MAGA extremists trample our freedoms and kowtow to billionaires and corporations at the expense of everyone else.”
