Battle Born Progress Statement on Shooting at the University of Nevada Las Vegas Campus
LAS VEGAS, NV – Around noon today, reports began coming in concerning a shooting on the campus of the University of Las Vegas Nevada. Currently, there are no confirmed reports of casualties but there are reports of multiple victims according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Paula Luna, Interim Executive Director, issued the following statement:
“We were devastated to hear that yet another mass shooting tragedy has occurred in our community. According to the most recent reports, multiple victims are heading to Las Vegas area hospitals. This is sickening. Our hearts go out to all those who have been injured and their families. As victims seek help and families are reunified, we hope they can heal from this tragedy. It is unacceptable for students, of any age, to be in situations where there is an active shooter. Continuing to train our kids via active shooter drills only for them to go on to college and experience an active shooter tells us exactly where our priorities lie. Instead of prevention, we continue to focus on response. Our students, teachers, school staff, and community members deserve better. The people that we love are at risk every single day. It is incumbent upon all of us including our elected officials to find comprehensive solutions to the continuing gun violence epidemic. We owe it to ourselves and our communities. ”
