LAS VEGAS, NV – Tonight, Nevada Assemblywoman Maggie Carlton joined Battle Born Progress for a town hall held via Facebook Live to answer questions about what Nevada’s future looks like after COVID-19, interim legislative priorities, vote-by-mail, and answered viewers’ questions.
Assemblywoman Maggie Carlton said:
“The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our state, and will continue affecting us, in ways many of us could not have imagined but I am positive we will overcome this unprecedented crisis. It is the hardworking families that built our state and our reputation as the entertainment capital of the world that will be key to our successful future. If it hadn’t been for the guidance and policies set forth by Governor Sisolak, Nevada would be in a much worse place and I stand with the governor and the experts that are leading the response to this pandemic. While our economy is starting to feel the impact of this crisis, we need to continue listening to the experts and ensure that any reopening is done in a safe and responsible manner. There’s a lot of work to be done to address the consequences that have already happened and will continue to happen to our economy and our state as a whole. Luckily, we made some progress last legislative session to help Nevada’s working families but now we need to do more to bring them some much-needed relief. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and do this work but we need U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to stop his dangerous rhetoric that states should go bankrupt. He and Congress need to also help make sure states can survive this crisis. ”
Annette Magnus, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, said:
“Assemblywoman Carlton is a stalwart champion for working families in Nevada. We trust her to lead the state’s Interim Finance Committee in a way that results in cuts only where they hurt the least. Her long record of standing by the needs of workers, including her support of raising the minimum wage last session, shows she understands how important it is that wages, working conditions, and benefits for workers remain a priority. With many Nevadans now out of work, I know that she is making every effort to ensure Nevadans can recover from the crisis quickly. She also understands the role the federal government plays in helping states overcome these obstacles. We’ll keep holding Congress accountable, particularly the irresponsible lack of leadership from Senate Majority Leader McConnell, to provide more funding for states to help them operate their critical services.”
Spokespeople in Spanish or English are available for individual interviews.
