Rep. Steven Horsford discusses Congressional COVID-19 response in Facebook Live Town Hall

***Livestream Recording Here***

LAS VEGAS, NV –  This evening, Battle Born Progress hosted a Facebook Live discussion with Re. Steven Horsford, who answered questions about the relief packages passed by Congress so far, the status of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), and what the future holds for the next relief effort.

Congressman Steven Horsford, stated:

“Nevada is the hardest hit state from the economic impact from COVID-19 and families, workers, and small businesses are hurting from this crisis. I’m working everyday to help all of my constituents receive the resources and help they need to outlast this public health emergency and set us on the path to recovery.

This pandemic has exposed what many of us have known for a long time – that income inequalities and health disparities disproportionately impacts communities of color and other marginalized groups even worse.  We need bold policies now that will help us recover in a way that creates real opportunity for all communities and not just the wealthy or the well connected.”

Annette Magnus, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, said:

“As the coronavirus emergency continues, Nevada will struggle harder than most other states to recover from the public health and economic impacts of this crisis. Nevadans more than ever are relying on their communities to make ends meet and survive this pandemic. I am thankful to Congressman Horsford for championing relief for the working families of Nevada in the packages passed by Congress so far, and the next package still on the horizon. It will be critical that the next relief bill contain support for state elections departments to ensure Americans’ voting rights are protected.

For those of us who like to recreate outdoors, our parks and public lands have become even more important as places to experience nature and get exercise while practicing social distancing. Many of those parks, such as Lorenzi, Craig Ranch, or Sunset Park, rely on the Land and Water Conservation Fund for maintenance and restoration. Congressman Horsford understands the vital importance of this program and we remain committed to working with him to ensure a full and permanent solution to LWCF funding so that our parks stay the pristine outdoor sanctuaries which support local communities.”

Spokespeople in Spanish or English are available for individual interviews.
