NEVADA – Following the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on ghost guns and gun violence, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, Annette Magnus issued the following statement:
“We are pleased to see that Senator Blumenthal and the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee held a hearing today concerning ghost guns. This is especially important as Nevada moves to outlaw these untraceable and unfurnished firearms. We are proud that Nevada is leading on this issue and paving the way for our National representatives to take action. Ghost guns are dangerous. This is evidenced by the significant uptick of ghost guns being recovered at crime scenes on the West and East coast. Marketing these guns as a way to get around background checks tells us all we need to know about their purpose. They are designed to circumvent the lawful process through which a person can obtain a firearm. We have a process for a reason. Skirting around it is not only dangerous but it is also irresponsible. We are thankful that our President has a desire to stop this epidemic and protect our communities. Further, five of the six members of our delegation are also committed to gun violence prevention that protects Nevadans. We want to thank the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee for hearing about this important issue today. We hope to see tangible action at the federal level as we are seeing it at the state level with AB286.”
