American Rescue Plan Provides Support for Nevada Working Families One-Year On

NEVADA – One year ago today, President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) into law, providing urgently-needed support for the nation’s economy, health care system, and state and local governments. Nevada received $4.42 billion under the ARPA, with $775 million going to local governments and $3.6 billion for the State. Following extensive public input, Governor Steve Sisolak and state officials have begun implementing plans for spending the discretionary funds from the ARPA.

“One year later, Nevada is stronger thanks to the American Rescue Plan”, said Annette Magnus, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress. “At the height of the pandemic, the ARPA was able to provide our state with millions of dollars to expand COVID testing, PPE, and vaccine distribution, which saved countless lives. It also funded community health centers and lowered the cost of healthcare insurance premiums, improving Nevadans’ access to care at that precarious time. The ARPA also expanded the Child Tax Credit, slashing child poverty and giving significant relief to Nevada’s working families.”

“The ARPA also opened the door for the Nevada legislature to restore funding for essential education and healthcare services at a time when we were experiencing reduced state revenue, providing a critical lifeline. Finally, we were thrilled to hear Governor Sisolak lay out numerous recovery priorities that utilize ARPA funds during his recent State of the State address. These included $160 million for supporting the state’s childcare workforce, $500 million to expand affordable housing, tuition assistance for educators, free school meals for all K-12 students, and millions more on fixing roads and bridges, preventing wildfires, and providing high-speed internet statewide. We thank our Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, and our Representatives Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford for voting to pass the American Rescue Plan one year ago, as well as Governor Sisolak for putting these funds to good use building a better Nevada where working people can raise their families and thrive.”
