NEVADA – Battle Born Progress held its weekly webcast, Out in Front with Annette, on Thursday evening, featuring both Congresswoman Dina Titus and Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine. Host Annette Magnus spoke with the Congresswoman about the ongoing discussions in Congress about President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, including addressing infrastructure, lowering prescription drug costs and tax reform. Treasurer Conine then discussed The Nevada Recovers Listening Tour and steps the state has taken to allocate American Rescue Plan funds.
“This pandemic decimated the local economy in Southern Nevada and forced so many in our community to struggle through no fault of their own. Thankfully, the American Rescue Plan put shots in arms, money in peoples’ pockets, workers in jobs, and the country back on a path to prosperity for all,” said Congresswoman Dina Titus. “Now we need a recovery that builds back better for Southern Nevada. That’s why I’m fighting to ensure that the infrastructure and budget packages expand education opportunities and health care coverage, create union jobs, address climate change, and help our most vulnerable communities.”
“Thanks to the work of our congressional delegation, the State of Nevada is set to receive $6.7 billion from the American Rescue Plan,” said Treasurer Zach Conine. “This is an unprecedented amount of money for our state, and we have a responsibility to put these dollars directly into communities so we can build the Nevada that we deserve.”
Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, Annette Magnus, said,
“We are thankful to Congresswoman Titus for being a voice for Nevada in Washington D.C. as President Biden and Congressional leadership advances the Build Back Better infrastructure agenda. By passing the American Rescue Plan, the Democratic members of Nevada’s delegation delivered a $6.7 billion investment for the state to aid our recovery effort from the pandemic. Now, Congress has a once-in-a-generation chance to add to that investment with the bipartisan infrastructure deal and $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation package. These plans will fund the creation of good-paying jobs, modernizing roads, buildings, and energy, and provide access to a quality public education for millions of students. They can achieve this by closing tax loopholes and upping IRS enforcement to ensure the ultra wealthy pay their fair share. Nevada billionaires alone increased their wealth by nearly $20 billion, or 32%, since the start of the pandemic.
We also thank Treasurer Conine for picking up the baton from our delegation and taking his statewide listening tour to hear concerns from constituents, community leaders, and local governments about how best to spend American Rescue Plan dollars. We encourage all Nevadans to attend these Listening Sessions and have a constructive dialogue with state officials about this federal money. We hope to see these funds used to keep more Nevadans fed, housed, vaccinated, and on track to recovery from this crisis.”
