Senate Candidate Sam Brown Speaks at Republican National Convention

LAS VEGAS, NV – United States Senate candidate Sam Brown spoke to the Republican National Convention today. Brown is currently running against Senator Jacky Rosen in a tight race. The Republican National Convention is happening through Thursday, July 18th in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Shelbie Swartz, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, issued the following statement:

“Trump-backed candidate Sam ‘Scam’ Brown spoke at the Republican National Convention today. It has been clear that Brown wants to distance himself from the far-right extremists of his party on key issues like abortion, as he knows Nevadans overwhelmingly support access to abortion and reproductive healthcare. However, by speaking at the RNC, Brown has shown his hand and who he truly is — an extremist himself. We know that Brown will choose his party over Nevadans and support a national ban on abortion if elected. His claims that women should ‘have choices’ fall on deaf ears as he ‘only supports exceptions for abortion in cases of rape, incest, and the life of the mother.’ These inconsistencies should concern Nevada voters, who could be in control of the United States Senate majority.”

“Brown is equally out-of-touch with Nevadans on the economy, claiming that the economic pain Nevadans are feeling comes from spending in Washington. Clearly, he is unaware or simply doesn’t care that corporations and wealthy interests are responsible for increased prices in almost every sector, from housing to groceries. Washington spending has nothing to do with private equity companies buying single-family homes and hiking up rent prices. Instead of proposing solutions to the problems Nevadans are facing, Brown is consistently laying blame on those who are not responsible for our struggles. This is partly why we call him Sam ‘Scam’ Brown, because he consistently tries to scam Nevada, voters, into believing he will fight for them. The truth is, he will do the same thing his leader has done: give breaks to wealthy individuals and blame everyone else for trickle-down economics failing. This is true concerning his position on abortion and his economic position.”

“At a time when we are seeing calls across the aisle for a lessening of political tensions in our country, Sam Brown choosing to speak at the RNC — a bastion of political extremism — shows that Brown prioritizes his party and its divisive politics over Nevadans. We need leaders who will stand up to corporate greed, support reproductive rights, and want to continue fighting for Nevadans to have a fair shot. Our elected officials should support our values and work to make sure we have a fair chance to succeed. Instead, too many politicians, like Brown, want to gain political power to further their own interests. We say to Brown, not today sir, not today.”
