Battle Born Progress Applauds SCOTUS Dismissal of Bogus Mifepristone Challenge
LAS VEGAS, NV – The Supreme Court today rejected a challenge from conservative extremists to the widely-used abortion drug mifepristone, with the court unanimously ruling the plaintiffs lacked standing to bring the case at all. The ruling comes after months of legal limbo for a drug used for decades by pregnant people across the U.S., all because of the legal ramblings of a single Texas judge who sought to reshape the federal drug approval process as part of the fringe effort to ban abortion everywhere.
Even after today’s ruling, the drug remains banned in states where medication abortion is illegal and severely restricted in Louisiana. And though this challenge was thrown out, anti-abortion activists will not stop these underhanded legal challenges until all abortions are banned.

Today, the Supreme Court confirmed what we all already knew – that the case to cut off access to a safe, legal and widely-used drug was the half-baked and legally deficient plan of the extremist fringe, not a serious legal question. Access to medication abortion is health care, and continued access to mifepristone will remain a lifeline for pregnant people across this country. But it should concern all of us that this case even made it to the Supreme Court at all. We must not forget that this all began because a single District Court judge decided to try and upend the FDA’s drug approval process in order to bow to anti-abortion extremists. And we cannot forget that this is still the same Supreme Court that ended Roe v. Wade.
