CARSON CITY, NV – Today, the 81st Session of the Nevada Legislature convened in Carson City.

Annette Magnus, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, said:

“We look forward to working with the Governor and members of the legislature to pass bills this session that provide needed assistance to Nevadans who are still struggling during this pandemic and resulting economic fallout. We strongly urge the legislature to follow through on having a real discussion about raising revenue to fund essential services like public schools, health care, and infrastructure, including measures to tax mining and ensure all industries are paying their fair share.”

“In addition to pandemic response, the legislature must be bold in taking action on climate change, substantial criminal justice reform, ending the death penalty, curbing gun violence, continuing to strengthen voting rights, and providing protection for frontline workers, in both the public and private sector, who operate essential services that are keeping our state afloat. We remain committed to advocating for additional federal COVID-19 relief for state and local governments to provide support for the state budget and prevent any further cuts to the services so many Nevadans rely upon. Finally, we await further updates from the Legislative Council Bureau on when and how the public can participate directly in the legislative process occurring within the capitol. Adequate public participation and transparency in this process is critical, especially while debating issues as important as these.”
