Opposition to hybrid CCSD plan

Dear Dr. Jara and CCSD Trustees,

It is unconscionable to even think that you all would consider bringing students, support staff, and educators back in person. Anyone who supports this idea must be living under a rock or willfully ignoring what is actually happening with COVID-19 and the science surrounding this pandemic. Cases are rising in Clark and across the state. We have hospitals once again preparing to be overwhelmed with cases. Experts and scientists across the country and Governor Sisolak are warning that this pandemic is far from over and that it will only get worse if people are together. Willful ignorance of reality around this pandemic and people blindly following the vocal anti-mask crowd minority is going to get people killed plain and simple.

Not only are you considering bringing people physically back together at the worst time, but this consideration has ignored the input of educators and support staff in the process. We don’t know what is more disgusting; the blatant disregard for people’s lives, or the lack of transparency with the very people that will be there with our students risking their lives.

Our organization is made up of CCSD alumni, a daughter of CCSD support staff, former education staff organizers, and future educators. We are disturbed that you would even consider a plan like this without weighing the very real consequences for people’s lives. Our hope is that our Trustees will make the right decision and keep people safe instead of putting their lives at risk and put people above politics. We will be here watching your decision and hope you act accordingly with what is happening in the real world.

Thank you,

Annette Magnus, Executive Director

Maria-Teresa Liebermann-Parraga, Deputy Director
